The 2015 season brought us “Fred-amaran,” whose name comes from the sail-like mast in its center, and its pontoon-like sides. Fred-amaran’s unique ability was to grab cans at the start of the game and the robot had an arm used for grabbing cans that could also be used to complete the coopertition stack from up to 5 feet away. Although other teams developed more effective grabbing devices, they lacked the ability to control the can’s alignment to the degree ours did. These aspects of Fred-amaran won the team three awards: two Excellence in Engineering Awards and a Creativity Award. We also took second place in our first competition and were semifinalists in the next. 2015 was another successful season with the team competing at the Pacific Northwest Regional Championships and the World Championships in St. Louis.
