The excitement of sport, the rigors of science
Under strict rules, limited resources, and the guidance of volunteer mentors including engineers, teachers, business professionals, parents, alumni and more, teams of 25+ students build and program robots to perform challenging tasks against a field of competitors. They must also raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and perform community outreach. In addition to learning valuable STEM and life skills, participants are eligible to apply for $80 million in college scholarships.
The AHS FRC team - Team 3238, Cyborg Ferrets - will not be "in service" for the 2022-2023 season
The AHS FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team – Team 7198, Mechanical Minks, is “in service” and accepting new team members for the 2021-2022 season. Follow this link for more information!
Grades 9-12; ages 14-18. Looking for students eager to learn team-based engineering, willing to focus on a very complex task, and engage in building a world-class team and robot. No previous skills or training required. Willingness to learn and avidly pursue greatness is a must.
Parents and interested community members participate, too – as coaches, mentors, and team support staff while the team develops their tournament entry, and as tournament support staff once the tournament season is underway. ARBC also relies on FRC parents as volunteer staff for our local FLL Explore Expositions and FIRST Washington-organized Tournaments (FLL Challenge, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition) in general when held in our area.
The FIRST Robotics Competition team that our community supports through ARBC is operated by the Anacortes School District as Associated Student Body (ASB) after-school club. Membership is available to students from the Anacortes School District – public, private, and home-schooled. Students apply directly to the team coaches to be considered for the team. AHS students must be members of the Associated Student Body (ASB) organization (a separate fee is paid to the school for ASB membership) and must meet AHS academic standards for extra-curricular activities as a condition of their participation.
The AHS FRC team, like all others in our 3-state District (AL, WA, OR), relies on support services (kickoff sessions, District Events and District Championship) operated by FIRST Washington, our region’s FIRST operating partner.
