Destined to face the demands of the elimination matches once again, Fred III featured an omni and pneumatic wheel pairing, a back-mounted electronics board, and a dual-wheel shooter. Judges were also fascinated by the fully automated cam system, which automatically collected, held, and progressed basketballs to the shooting system and the student-welded arm, which could push down the platform with ease, even if there was another robot already on it.
